Geostatistics is a popular branch of statistics focusing on the analysis of spatially and temporally distributed data. It incorporates powerful interpolation and simulation methods based on the concepts of random functions and variograms. The goal of this talk is to introduce the basic tools and ideas behind Geostatistics (e.g., the variogram, anisotropy, kriging and sequential simulation) and to illustrate them through different examples in geology and meteorology.
